The Turlock Fire Department beat back a large blaze in a vacant home that also threatened nearby houses Friday evening.
Turlock firefighters were called to a working structure fire on the 100 block of Hedstrom Road just after 8 p.m. Friday. When crews arrived they found a single-story residence fully involved in flames that were threatening adjoining homes.
The blaze was brought under control in about 30 minutes. Fire responded with four engines, two battalion chiefs, one division chief, the fire marshal and the fire chief. Engines from Stanislaus Consolidated, Modesto Fire and Turlock Rural provided coverage for additional incidents within city limits during the call.
Crews remained on scene until the early hours of the morning to investigate the cause of the fire and to perform an overhaul of the structure. No injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call Fire Marshal Mark Gomez at 209-669-2119.
