Suspect arrested in home invasion stabbing

The Santa Monica Police Department has arrested a suspect following a multi-hour standoff in the NOMA neighborhood.

Two residents were stabbed in the incident that began with a home invasion robbery near 20th and Georgina at about 6 p.m.

Officers responded to the scene and quickly cornered at least one suspect in a nearby home.

SMPD sent out an alert to residents at about 6:50 p.m. saying “Santa Monica Police Activity in the area of the 200 blk of 19th St. Please avoid the area. If you reside in the area keep your window and doors locked and do not venture outside.”

The SWAT team responded and efforts to arrest the suspect included the use of police dogs and sound diversion. The suspect was arrested at about 10 p.m. but the area remained closed for several hours due to the ongoing investigation.
