‘Sgt. Pepper’ anniversary remix called ‘incredible’ by many on Twitter

Considered by some to be one the greatest album ever made, the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” turned 50 on Friday.

But now, Beatles fans can enjoy a mix that many are calling even better than the original.

Producer Giles Martin (son of Beatles producer George Martin) released a 50th-anniversary stereo remix on CD, vinyl and streaming platforms Friday. Early reception from fans and critics has been extremely positive.

In a Rolling Stone review, Mikal Gilmore wrote that, “thanks to Giles Martin, we can hear the Beatles’ apogee as it was always meant to be heard.” Writing for the Guardian, Alexis Petridis called it “a vast improvement on the old stereo version.” Both reviewers gave the remix a perfect five stars.

Other audiophiles used Twitter to celebrate “Sgt. Pepper” – both the original and the stereo reissue.
