Sacramento Memorial Day events honor country’s fallen heroes

Several Sacramento-area events are scheduled Sunday and Monday–Memorial Day–to pay tribute the country’s servicemen and servicewomen who died in active duty:

▪ California Vietnam Veterans Memorial- 18th Annual Reading of the Names (Sunday, Sacramento): Honor the more than 5,800 Californian’s who died or remain missing from the Vietnam War at the reading of names ceremony slated Sunday at the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The memorial, on the State Capitol grounds near L and 15th streets, features 22 black granite panels listing the names, age, hometown, military branch and rank of those who died in the war. The event starts at 6:30 a.m. and last several hours, with a honors ceremony scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. The name reading will continue afterward, until every name listed has been read out loud. The local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America is the group behind the name ceremony. This event is free.
