Rosamond man killed, Encino woman injured in Lancaster crash

LANCASTER >> A 67-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash with another motorist in Lancaster, authorities said Saturday.

The crash was reported at 11:38 p.m. Friday in the area of East Avenue E and 50th Street, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.

For reasons still under investigation, a 50-year-old woman driving a 2009 Mercedes Benz ML350 eastbound on Avenue E at about 40 miles per hour crossed over into the westbound traffic lane and in front of a 2000 Nissan Quest driven by the Rosamond resident, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The 67-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and the 50-year-old woman, who was a resident of Encino, was rushed to Antelope Valley Hospital with major injuries, the CHP said. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
