Pacific Grove Unified swears in new trustee

PACIFIC GROVE >> Trustees with the Pacific Grove Unified School District appointed retired educator Christy Dawson to serve an 18-month term on the board.

In her application for the seat, Dawson said she taught for 40 years at different levels, from preschool to 12th grade as well as alternative education. She also worked as a high school counselor and assistant principal at Los Altos High.

Dawson, along with four other candidates, was interviewed on May 16. Trustees voted on the appointment on Thursday.

Dawson will serve the remainder of John Thibeau’s term, which expires in December 2018. The term was originally scheduled to end in 2017, but Pacific Grove Unified along with most school districts in Monterey County changed their elections to even-number years to increase voter participation.

Dawson was sworn in Thursday right after the vote. She could not be reached for comment Friday.
