Man gropes woman on BART, police say

BERKELEY — A man traveling on BART reportedly groped a female passenger Wednesday night and then fled after the train pulled into a station.

The train was bound for Warm Springs and was between the Richmond and North Berkeley stations when the incident happened about 8:30 p.m., according to the transit agency.

The man, who was sitting next to the woman, initially tried to engage her in conversation, BART police said.

Both the man and the woman exited the train at North Berkeley, where the man fled and the woman told a station agent what happened.

BART police described the suspect as a black man between 20 and 25 years old who stands about 5 feet 8 inches tall.

Police said the suspect left the North Berkeley station about 8:45 p.m.
