Driver crashes into three cars during pursuit, police say

ANTIOCH — A driver fleeing from a traffic stop hit a light pole and struck three cars on Friday before an officer intentionally struck his vehicle to stop him, police said.

Joshua Hawkins, 24, of Oakland faces charges of felony evading and felony assault on a peace officer, as well as a felony probation violation.

Two officers initially attempted to pull over Hawkins about 6:42 p.m. at Sycamore Drive and Peppertree Way because he was allegedly driving recklessly.

As the officers were catching up with Hawkins, his vehicle spun out of control on L Street near Lemontree Way, police said.

Hawkins then intentionally drove into a police car and up onto the sidewalk on Auto Center Drive near Century Boulevard, hit a light pole and struck three cars, police said. He also narrowly missed a pedestrian, according to police.

As Hawkins attempted to drive off again an officer intentionally struck his car to disable it, police said.

Two occupants of a vehicle that Hawkins struck were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said. Hawkins was not injured.

Antioch police ask anyone with information on the case to call 925-778-2441 or text-a-tip to 274637 (CRIMES) using the key word ANTIOCH.
