BRENTWOOD — A large end-of-school-year prank at Liberty High involving up to 1,000 students in a giant water balloon fight, escalated to the hurling of plastic water bottles that struck and injured two to three students on Friday afternoon, police said.
Around 12:30 p.m. Friday, between 900 to 1,000 students in the campus quad threw water balloons at each other, which “escalated to one to two people launching water bottles into the crowd,” Brentwood police Lt. Walter O’Grodnick said Saturday.
The students had minor injuries, but staff were alerted and police were called. When officers arrived the situation had calmed, O’Grodnick said, and no arrests were made.
Police are investigating whether the water bottle tossing was malicious or just reckless, he said.
