Arsonist targets tent of homeless person in Oakland

OAKLAND — Police are searching for an arsonist who set fire to a tent that a homeless person had set up on Union Street.

The tent was unoccupied when then fire was lit about 12:33 a.m. on May 15 in the 2400 block of the street, police said.

The suspect is described as a man of unknown race and unknown age, who stands approximately 5 feet 8 inches to – 6 fee tall. He was wearing a light colored jacket with black sleeves, black jeans and was carrying a backpack.

The man was also riding a bike, police said.

The Oakland fire and police departments are collaborating to identify and locate the suspect.
