OAKLAND — Oakland International Airport is continuing its flight increases with new flights to the East Coast and Midwest.
Budget carrier Spirit Airlines added two new nonstop flights out of Oakland to its roster this week: one to Baltimore’s Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and one to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
The flight to Baltimore marks the second such route from Oakland, joining Southwest Airlines’ route to the same place.
The new service also puts Spirit as the Oakland airport’s second-largest carrier — measured by the number of departure seats — behind Southwest, which holds over 70 percent of the airport’s market share. Spirit now offers a total of seven nonstop destinations from Oakland, with 11 daily flights in summer 2017, including one flight each to Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas and Houston, two flights to Las Vegas, and four to Los Angeles.
