Men up in arms over all-female ‘Wonder Woman’ screenings

“Wonder Woman” is finally about to storm theaters with her lasso of truth and it’s a huge event for fangirls around the world because Hollywood is not known for its embrace of powerful female characters. This is a rare and momentous event so the dine-in theater chain Alamo Drafthouse decided to celebrate with an all-female night at its Austin location.

“Apologies, gentlemen, but we’re embracing our girl power and saying ‘No Guys Allowed’ for one special night at the Alamo Ritz. And when we say ‘People Who Identify As Women Only,’ we mean it,”  the theater chain announced. “Everyone working at this screening — venue staff, projectionist, and culinary team — will be female.”


“So lasso your geeky girlfriends together and grab your tickets to this celebration of one of the most enduring and inspiring characters ever created,” added the announcement, which has been shared on Facebook more than 1,500 times.

Alas, as the Washington Post reports, the Austin theater soon encountered blowback from men who were enraged that they were not invited to the screenings. Apparently these men feel that even a movie about a badass warrior princess who hails from an island of all women has to belong to them. Because, men.
