DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Johnny Field and Jake Hager connected on back-to-back homers in the fourth inning, leading the Durham Bulls to a 6-1 win over the Gwinnett Braves on Friday.
Field hit a grand slam before Hager hit a solo shot that gave the Bulls a 6-1 lead.
Mallex Smith homered and doubled for Durham. Casey Gillaspie doubled and singled.
Durham southpaw Blake Snell (1-0) picked up the win after allowing one run on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings. Opposing starter Lucas Sims (4-1) took the loss in the International League game after a rough outing in which he allowed six runs and seven hits over 3 1/3 innings.
Lane Adams reached base three times for the Braves.
