A 13-year-old poodle mix missing from her Kentucky home will be reunited this week with her owners thanks to some detective work by a Turlock police Animal Services officer.
A Turlock resident found the little dog wandering the Walmart parking lot on Monday and brought her to the Police Department. Animal Services staff checked the embedded chip, and though the phone number was bad, it at least revealed Trixie was from Kentucky, police said.
Animal Services Officer Katie Butler determined the veterinarian on record for Trixie, and together they found her owners. Trixie’s family said she has been missing for more than three years. They’d posted fliers, searched the area and offered a reward for her return, but all amounted to nothing.
The family had never been to California, so believes Trixie was stolen from her yard, police said. The family has paid for a plane ticket and is covering expenses to get Trixie home. Glena Jackson, Animal Services supervisor, Jackson take Trixie to Sacramento International Airport on Saturday.
