Gun fired inside Danville Costco during armed robbery

DANVILLE — At least one gunshot was fired inside a Danville Costco on Friday during the store’s second smash-and-grab robbery involving hammer-wielding assailants this month.

No one was shot during the 12:15 p.m. heist at Costco Wholesale at 3150 Fostoria Way, but one bystander was taken to a hospital for shock, said Danville city spokesman Geoff Gillette. That person did not interact with the robbers directly, but suffered some kind of fall during the ordeal, Gillette said.

Police reported two masked individuals shrouded in hoodies came into the store. One of them smashed a glass display case with a hammer and grabbed some merchandise and, after an employee tried to intercede, the second robber fired a gun, Gillette said. The number of shots fired was not released early Friday afternoon.

The robbers ran from the store and fled the area in a waiting silver Toyota Camry with paper plates.

The same store was robbed by a masked man using a hammer on May 8. Police said a masked man enter with two unmasked accomplices and smashed a display case with a hammer before fleeing with the merchandise inside. A store employee tackled one of the unasked suspects, leading to the arrest of 21-year-old Oakland resident Kasean Edwards, but the other two got away.
