Wholesome ways to celebrate Earth Day

April is filled with so many holidays, from the overly pastel Easter to 4/20, and Earth Day tends to get overshadowed. But this April 22, don’t forget to celebrate Mother Nature! Need some tips? Check out some of our ideas below to keep your Earth Day nature-filled and wholesome.

Buy a succulent

These little plants are so cute and easy to keep. Basically, even if you weren’t blessed with a green thumb, these resilient, low-maintenance plants will do the work for you. With a vast variety of sizes and styles, you’re sure to find one you like, especially if you hit up the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden’s spring plant sale.

Plant a tree, or buy a tree certificate

It seems this is the absolute classic way to celebrate Earth Day. But if you’re like me and don’t really have a spare tree on hand, organizations, such as Stand for Trees, make it really easy to buy a tree certificate in order to protect at-risk trees from deforestation.

Take a walk/hike on campus

Sometimes as we run from class to class it’s really easy to forget how amazing UC Berkeley’s campus actually is. Go out and explore! Find a new trail or part of campus you haven’t seen before.

Sit outside on the glade

As the weather warms up, it’s so much easier to make this one happen. But this is really a perfect, and easy, way to celebrate Earth Day. Throw a frisbee, blast some music or just enjoy a sunny day out on the glade with your fellow Bears!
