High school presents ‘In the Heights’
The Diamond Bar High School Theater Company opens up its spring season with the performance of the musical “In the Heights” with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and book by Quiara Algeria Hudes.
In the Heights is showing at 7 p.m. April 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 in the school’s theater, 21400 Pathfinder Road.
Tickets cost $18 for adults and $15 for students and may be purchased online at seatyourself.biz/dbhsdrama.
“In the Heights,” takes a course of three days in Washington Heights, a largely Dominican neighborhood in New York. The musical revolves around various characters who are struggling with internal and external conflicts relating to the immigrant experience in America. Usnavi is a bodega owner who is infatuated with a beautiful girl named Vanessa, who works next-door in a hair salon and yearns to leave the “barrio” for the lures of more affluent areas of the city.
The Covina Parks & Recreation Department is offering a Basketball Camp for ages 10-13 at Covina Park, 301 4th Ave.
This camp is designed to prepare participants for competitive play. Staff will work with each player to develop their skills and communication on the court, as well as teach them how to work effectively in a team setting.
Camp will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from April 22 to May 13. The fee is $55. Register now through April 20 or until filled, whichever comes first.
