High-speed pursuit in Petaluma leads to crash

A Volkswagen Passat, traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour, led Petaluma police on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash and a DUI charge early this morning.

The car was spotted by police around 2 a.m. southbound on Highway 101 at high speeds without headlights. The car exited on East Washington Street where a Petaluma police officer began pursuit. The Passat turned onto North McDowell Boulevard where the police officer lost sight of the car, according to Petaluma police.

Other officers saw the car speeding, still without headlights, toward Old Redwood Highway and began pursuit.

Police said the Passat lost control and crashed onto the center median of Old Redwood Highway as it attempted to drive toward Penngrove.

Macy Keovilay, 29, of Novato, exited the car and ran toward nearby buildings, but was quickly apprehended, police said. A 29-year-old man, also from Novato, remained in the passenger seat and cooperated with law enforcement. Neither person was injured.

Keovilay had a blood alcohol level above the legal limit of .08 and was charged with a DUI and booked in Sonoma County Jail.
