A new car sales business is coming to an industrial portion of Campbell, but it won’t be a traditional dealership.
On April 11, the planning commission voted unanimously to grant approvals to the owner of Via Motors to move into a site at 125 E. Sunnyoaks Ave. not far from San Tomas Expressway.
Via Motors will be a “wholesale and retail vehicle sales business.” According to the staff report, “prospective customers would be shown vehicles by appointment only from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.”
The site currently houses a two-story commercial building with multiple tenants. According to the report, it was built in the 1970s and since the building “predominantly serves as an office building, the introduction of a by-appointment-only retail car sales use would be consistent with the operational characteristics of the existing professional office building.”
Vehicles for sale will be in the parking lot outside of the building. To the south, west and eastern sides of the site are industrial businesses. A storage business is located behind the site, and multiple vehicle body shops and the West Valley Sanitation District sit across Sunnyoaks Avenue.
The property has 56 parking spaces, which exceeds the required parking requirement for the office building by 10 spaces. According to city staff, the commission in previous years approved two similar auto sales business.
