A Fairfield man accused of assisting in his mother’s suicide at a Vacaville storage unit last year made a brief appearance Thursday in Solano County Superior Court.
After several delays to move forward by the presiding judge and attorneys, Eric T. Capitanich, 43, is scheduled to have his preliminary hearing June 27.
Capitanich was arrested Jan. 6 on charges of aiding and abetting the suicide of his mother Diane, 69, and booked into Solano County Jail.
At approximately 7:38 p.m. Dec. 7 , Vacaville Police Officers responded to the Peabody Self Storage, where they discovered a deceased woman with a single gunshot wound to the head. The woman was later identified as Diane Capitanich.
Following an investigation that spanned roughly a month, police determined Eric Capitanich played a role in his mother’s suicide.
At the time, officers alleged that Capitanich’s mother was experiencing health issues prior to her death.
At his Jan. 10 arraignment, Capitanich pleaded not guilty to one count of aiding and abetting suicide. Following his arraignment, the judge allowed him to be released on his own recognizance. According to a January statement from the deputy district attorney on the case, no resolution that would avoid trial has been reached in the case.
He has remained out of police custody ever since his arraignment.
