Trapped couple rescued from snow in Butte Meadows

Butte Meadows >> A couple planning to get married were rescued Friday morning after becoming stuck in the snow in Butte Meadows, according to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call about 9:45 a.m. Friday from a woman who reported that her son and his fiancée had been trapped in the snow since about 5 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release.

The woman reported she had been in contact with her son via text message and was able to give the authorities detailed information about where the couple had become stuck.

The Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue unit responded with a specialized snow vehicle and found the trapped couple about 12:40 p.m. Friday. They were later reunited with family at the Jonesville Snowmobile Park.

The Sheriff’s Office said the trapped couple were well prepared for the conditions and were not hurt. The couple also told family where they were going and when they planned to return.

Officials advise people to pack extra clothes, blankets, food and water on trips to the snow. They also stress the importance of letting someone know about such trips.
