Knott's ride stuck 125 feet in air with 17 people inside

BUENA PARK >> Firefighters were on the way to rescue 17 people stranded 125 feet in the air after Knott’s Berry Farm’s Sky Cabin got stuck Friday evening.

Shortly before 5 p.m., firefighters were called with the report that the ride, which carries people up in a rotating room, had stalled.

“We’re working to get all technical crews there,” said Capt. Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority.

No injuries had been reported but firefighters were still making their way to the park, Kurtz said.

Sky Cabin was closed in May 2010 and sat stagnant for 18 months before reopening after a remodel.

Originally opened in 1976, the over-sized mechanical doughnut ascends about 300 feet into the air and spins slowly, allowing riders panoramic views.

Updates to follow.
