Volunteers welcome at beach cleanup

Volunteers are welcome at a New Year’s Day trash pickup at noon Sunday at Seabright State Beach.

There is no pre-registration volunteer form or application. Groups, families and children are invited. Volunteers will meet near the Museum of Natural History for a lunch potluck and then start the trash pickup at 1 p.m.

If possible, bring gloves or even a trash collection bucket, paper or reusable grocery bags.

Volunteers can take before and after pictures and post them on the “New Year’s Day Beach Clean Up” event Facebook page.


Poster contest accepts entries

The City of Watsonville Parks and Community Services Department are accepting entries for the 2017 Watsonville Strawberry Festival Poster Contest.

The winning entry wins a $1,000.

The rules for the entries:

• Entries must be 16 inches x 20 inches. Do not include text as part of the design.

• Entries must reflect the strawberry crop and the Pajaro Valley.

• Entries must be original art. Entries that use clip art or other copyrighted material will not be accepted.

• Entries must be submitted in formats for print and web applications.

The deadline to enter is Feb. 17.
