What's closed on New Year's Day, observed Jan. 2, in the Los Angeles area

Banks: Banks and financial markets are closed.

Government: City, county and federal offices, libraries and superior courts are closed. Also, Burbank Public Libraries close at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 and libraries that are open on Sundays are closed Jan. 1. Los Angeles Public and Los Angeles County Public libraries close at 5 p.m. Dec. 31 and libraries that are open on Sundays are closed on Jan. 1.

Mail: The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver mail. www.usps.com

Schools: Schools are closed.

Transit: Buses and subway services in Los Angeles run on a Sunday/holiday schedule (www.metro.net). Metrolink trains run on a Sunday schedule on Jan. 2. The Antelope Valley and San Bernardino lines run on a modified schedule for those riders going to the Tournament of Rose Parade in Pasadena (www.metrolinktrains.com).

Trash: No trash is picked up on Jan. 2 in Los Angeles. www.lacitysan.org Monday’s trash will be picked up on Jan. 3, and then a one-day postponement through the week. Trash is picked up on a regular schedule in Burbank and Glendale. www.burbankca.gov; www.glendaleca.gov
