MORGAN HILL — A 41-year-old Oakland man and a 32-year-old San Jose woman were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a vehicle pursuit and crash Wednesday, police said.
The chain of events began at 9:17 a.m. when Morgan Hill police officers conducted a computer check of a license plate and learned that it did not match the make of the vehicle. Police said officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it took off and ran several lights.
A pursuit was quickly called off out of concern for public safety, but officers found the vehicle crashed minutes later at the intersection of Monterey Road and Madrone Parkway.
Witnesses told officers they saw two people run from the vehicle. The passenger, identified as Nikki Rodriguez, was found a short distance away and the driver, identified as Manuel Alvarez, was found in a nearby residential neighborhood, according to police.
Alvarez and Rodriguez were arrested on suspicion of evading, hit and run, driving under the influence and possession of illegal drug paraphernalia. Rodriguez also had a $25,000 warrant for her arrest. Both were booked at the Santa Clara County…
