A “lightsaber vigil” in honor of actress Carrie Fisher, the Star Wars icon who died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack last week, is set for 7 p.m. Friday at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.
Fans are planning to pay tribute to Fisher at the front steps of the art center, facing Escondido Boulevard, according to an event page posted on Facebook. If it’s raining, the group will meet instead under a covered walkway that leads toward the back of the center toward the parking lot off Woodward Drive.
The vigil is being planned by Team Lightsaber, a group that “seeks fun, friendship, and fitness through staged lightsaber combat stunt choreography,” according to its Facebook page.
No sparring or choreography will be allowed at the vigil, which will instead be a time for “coming together to honor and share stories about our beloved Princess and General,” the group said on its event listing.
A lightsaber is not required to attend.
The arts center is at 340 N. Escondido Blvd.
