Diver dies after swimming in Carmel Bay

Carmel >> The Monterey County Coroner’s Office is investigating what led to a 33-year-old diver’s death Tuesday in the waters off Scenic Road in Carmel.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman John Thornburg saud four divers were swimming out to their dive spot Tuesday, but only three made it there. The three then found their dive partner, the 33-year-old man, floating in medical distress.

First responders arrived minutes after the divers called 911. The victim was taken to the hospital and died shortly after.

Thornburg said it’s unclear what went wrong and the Coroner’s Office is investigating the cause of death.
