Santa Cruz >> Thursday was the first appearance for Patrick McCaw in a Santa Cruz Warriors uniform. The Golden State rookie was assigned to Santa Cruz prior to its game against visiting Northern Arizona, and his performance was just above average.
But with the game on the line against the Suns, McCaw came through with a clutch jump shot and he helped lead the Warriors to a 115-108 win in the teams’ D-League game at the Kaiser Permanente Arena.
McCaw finished with 15 points on 6-of-17 shooting, to go along with six rebounds, four assists and a block in 38 minutes. He was held scoreless for nearly two quarters at one point.
But it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.
“He’s great, he does the little things really, really well,” Warriors coach Casey Hill said of McCaw. “He showed his ability to work the pick-and-roll, those pocket passes he was throwing them really nice.”
McCaw’s running jump shot with 32.8 seconds remaining extended Santa Cruz’s leads to five, and Northern Arizona was unable to rally.
The Warriors (10-8) extended their win streak to three games with the victory, while the Suns (10-7) have lost six straight. It was the third meeting between both teams and Santa Cruz has won them all.
