Cops and Courts Dec. 30, 2016: SUV rolls into Aptos house, business

An 83-year-old Lodi woman was trying to park her 2015 Chevrolet Suburban while heading east on Aptos Beach Drive at the corner of Marina Avenue about 3:45 p.m. Thursday, when she drove into the side of a house and business, said Officer Trista Drake, a spokeswoman for California Highway Patrol.

The woman pushed the gas pedal instead of the brakes, Drake said.

“She hit a parked motor home and smashed into the house, but not through the side of the house,” Drake said.

No one was hurt in the wreck and no citation was issued.

A proper-management firm also occupies the building, which wasn’t empty when the woman rolled into the structure.

“There was somebody home and she was scared and shaken up,” Drake said. “She heard a big bang.”

Airbags didn’t deploy during the wreck.

“There also were some people sitting in the motor home,” Drake said.

Drake said she teaches driving courses monthly at Aptos Branch Library. The classes are free to students 55 years and older. To make an appointment for the class, call the CHP at 831-662-0511.
