Blue Shield, Sutter Health talking

Negotiations continue between Blue Shield and Sutter Health on a contract for 2017, Blue Shield spokeswoman Molly Weedn said Thursday.

Palo Alto Medical Foundation, which is part of Sutter Health, posted an update Dec. 15 saying, “We hope to successfully complete these renewals by the end of 2016.”

On Thursday, Sutter Health public relations director Karen Garner said, “Annual contract negotiations with Blue Shield continue, and we are hopeful. As always, our goal is to complete health plan contract renewals by the end of the year to help ensure our patients have continued access to their Sutter Health care teams. Patients may visit sutterhealth.org for the latest information.”

Sutter Health agreements contain transition options for patients if a contract expires, according to Palo Alto Medical Foundation. Details are posted at Pamf.org/physicians/healthplans.html.

Two years ago, it took until the end of January to reach an agreement.
