AZUSA >> A 6-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle and critically injured today in Azusa.
Officers responded to the scene of the crash at 7:42 p.m. in the 700 block of North Vernon Avenue, according to Sgt. John Madaloni of the Azusa Police Department.
The boy was accompanied by his mother as they crossed North Vernon Avenue outside of the crosswalk when he was struck by a southbound pickup truck, Madaloni said.
The boy was stabilized at the scene before he was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries including major head trauma, a fractured femur and internal injuries, the sergeant said.
The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene of the crash and was cooperating with the investigation, Madaloni said. Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the crash, he added.
