ALTADENA >> A 44-year-old man was rescued Thursday after he became stranded in Millard Canyon while hiking in Angeles National Forest.
The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team responded about 1:20 p.m. to assist the hiker, who had become stranded at the top of a waterfall in Eaton Canyon, according to the sheriff’s department.
“Rescue crews were not able to reach the stranded hiker via cellphone and crews started searching Eaton Canyon area,” according to a department statement.
“After approximately 20 minutes rescue crews were able to make contact with the hiker and it was determined the hiker was in Millard Canyon.”
The Cerritos resident was returning from a trek to a waterfall when he lost sight of the trail and became stranded on a steep hillside. He was not injured.
Crews used ropes to lower a rescuer to the hiker, who was raised to safety by 4 p.m., shortly before sunset, according to the sheriff’s department.
