Road Report: Monterey Pipeline Project enters second phase

Monterey Peninsula >> Pipes lined the road in front of the Monterey County Fair and Event Center Wednesday as work progressed on the Monterey Pipeline Project.

Crews recently began work on the second phase of the project, which includes installation of the main transmission line.

Phase 2 construction begins in Zone 4, which spans the area between the fairgrounds and Canyon Del Rey Boulevard and will work in both directions toward Zone 5, which spans from Canyon Del Rey Boulevard to the length of Hilby Street ending at General Jim Moore Boulevard in Seaside, and Zone 3, which runs between Lake El Estero to Monterey-Salinas Highway near the fairgrounds in Monterey. Phase 2 construction is scheduled to be completed in about a year.

The following areas will be affected during the next few weeks:

Work to relocate the underground pipeline on Madison Street will continue between Larkin and Monroe streets in Monterey through Jan. 6. Detours onto Jefferson Street will be posted.

Residents in the affected sections of Madison Street should check with the on-site contractors on making arrangements for driveway access during construction. Parking will be limited in construction areas between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Temporary water service interruptions will occur for residents in affected areas of Madison when water service lines are reconnected to the newly relocated water main. These interruptions are estimated to last between 30 to 45 minutes. Affected properties will be…
