Man wanted in connection with stolen Christmas gifts in Palmdale

A 25-year-old man from Palmdale is wanted in connection with an incident where Christmas gifts were stolen from under a tree at an apartment in Palmdale.

Derrick Hairston was identified by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Detective John Hall as a potential suspect on Thursday.

The Christmas items were stolen around 5:18 p.m. Dec. 23 in the 1200 block of East Avenue S, authorities said. An image of the man was also captured on surveillance video.

Hairston is wanted on suspicion of taking the items after pulling a backpack out from under his shirt.

“We’re working on finding him hopefully today,” Hall said. “I imagine by now he knows.”

Hall said Hairston is on parole for a previous burglary. The detective did not think Hairston lived in the apartment complex where the burglary took place but “may” have friends in the complex.

There are no other crimes Hairston is being accused of, Hall said.

If someone sees Hairston, Hall said, they should call authorities.

Anyone with information on the incident can call Detective Hall at 661-272-2456. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or
