Rubio appointed chair of human services committee
State Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio, D-Baldwin Park, has been appointed as the first Latina chair of the assembly’s human services committee, her office announced Tuesday.
The committee oversees child welfare services, foster care, CalWORKs, developmental disabilities services, adult protective services and other human services programs.
Rubio, who was elected to her first term in November, was appointed to the position by Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon.
“Every day Californians depend on vital services provided by the state and many of these services have been cut short by past budgetary limitations,” Rubio said in a statement. “It is my goal as chair of the Committee on Human Services to restore services and also to support legislation that aims to protect our most vulnerable populations.”
School board applicants sought
Walnut Valley Unified School District is looking for qualified applicants to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Trustees.
The board, in accordance to Education Code Section 5091, took action on Dec. 14 to fill the seat by making a provisional appointment to be filled until the next scheduled district election.
Applications and information about the process are available on the district’s website at www.wvusd.k12.ca.us and must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. Jan. 3, via email.
