Santa Cruz woman suffers major head trauma in Soquel collision

SOQUEL >> A 35-year-old Santa Cruz woman suffered major head trauma after swerving into oncoming traffic early Wednesday morning on North Rodeo Gulch Road in Soquel.

The unidentified woman was driving a 2000 Toyota 4Runner up North Rodeo Gulch Road at roughly 4:25 a.m. when she swerved across the solid double yellow line and collided with Randy Gossell, 64, of Soquel in his 2006 Toyota Tundra, according to California Highway Patrol officer Trista Drake.

Gossell’s Tundra struck the passenger side of the woman’s 4Runner. Gossell was uninjured, but the woman received medical attention at the scene of the accident and was transported to Valley Medical Center for a head injury, Drake said. She remains unresponsive at this time.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. It is unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor. The CHP asks anyone with information to call 831-662-0511.
